In the 13th century, a woman in Santarém, Portugal, struggling in her marriage, turned to a sorceress for help. The sorceress demanded a consecrated Host from the Catholic Church as payment for her services.

The woman obeyed, stole the Host during Mass, and brought it home. But soon her conscience was pierced with remorse. She wrapped the sacred Host in a linen cloth and hid it. To her astonishment and terror, the Host began to bleed profusely, soaking the cloth with blood — a visible sign of Christ’s Real Presence and suffering.

Deeply repentant, she confessed everything to her parish priest. The bleeding Host was recovered and solemnly enshrined in a special reliquary. Over 700 years later, this Eucharistic miracle continues to be venerated at the Church of the Holy Miracle (Igreja do Santíssimo Milagre) in Santarém. Countless pilgrims visit to witness the preserved relic and deepen their faith in the Blessed Sacrament.
