The perovskite system outperformed silicon by 3.42% in March, 3.79% in April and 5.81% in May.

 


Chinese and Canadian researchers have tested a 1 MW perovskite solar system alongside a 3.5 MW silicon facility. The three-month field test showed the perovskite system generated more electricity for the same installed capacity.
The perovskite system outperformed silicon by 3.42% in March, 3.79% in April and 5.81% in May. Its advantage increased as temperatures and sunlight became stronger.
Researchers also developed a special coating to reduce tiny defects in large perovskite modules that can waste electricity. A table-sized module reached 22% efficiency and 158.4 watts while withstanding heat, humidity and temperature changes.
The results suggest perovskite technology could become a serious competitor to conventional silicon solar panels at industrial scale. However, long-term durability, manufacturing and commercialization remain important challenges for widespread deployment.
