THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE VISITING VIETNAM

Vietnam is an amazing place to visit, but there are a few things that might surprise you when you first get here Save this before your trip.

1. Don’t take every honk personally.

Vietnam traffic is noisy, but horns don’t always mean someone is angry. A lot of the time it simply means, “I’m here,” or “I’m passing.”

2. Don’t pack for just “one Vietnam.”

The weather can be completely different depending on where you are. The South might be hot and humid while the northern mountains are cool and foggy. Always check each city before you go.

3. Double-check your Vietnamese dong.

The 20,000 and 500,000 VND notes can look surprisingly similar when you’re moving fast. One small mistake and suddenly that coffee got very expensive lol

4. Flashing headlights don’t always mean “go ahead.”

In Vietnam, flashing lights can be more of a warning that a vehicle is coming through. Don’t automatically assume someone is giving you priority.

5. Don’t exchange all your money at the airport.

Change or withdraw a small amount first so you have enough to get started. Once you’re in the city, you can compare rates and other options.

6. Don’t try to understand the traffic on your first day.

It can look chaotic at first, but there is a rhythm to it. Stay predictable, stay aware and don’t make sudden movements when crossing the street.

7. Keep some cash on you.

Cards are common in many places, but cash is still very useful for street food, local markets and smaller shops.

And most importantly, don’t overthink Vietnam before you come. A lot of things that seem confusing on Day 1 will feel completely normal a few days later.

Vietnam is busy, fun, sometimes chaotic and full of surprises and that’s part of what makes traveling here so memorable.
