Tesla’s Cybercab isn't being pitched only as transportation. Elon Musk has long suggested autonomous Teslas could eventually become income-producing vehicles.
Musk previously estimated that a robotaxi could generate roughly $30,000 in annual gross profit for an owner. With the Cybercab now entering Tesla’s robotaxi operation, EV creator Kim Java traveled to Austin to investigate how realistic that idea might be.
The concept sounds simple: buy a Cybercab, place it on Tesla’s network and let it carry paying passengers when you aren't using it. Musk has also discussed a Cybercab purchase price below $30,000, potentially creating the unusual proposition of a vehicle theoretically earning roughly its purchase price in a year.
But that $30,000 isn't guaranteed income. Real profitability would depend on passenger demand, utilization, empty miles, maintenance, charging, insurance, Tesla’s platform cut and other operating expenses. Tesla has not demonstrated that a privately owned Cybercab currently produces $30,000 a year for its owner.
The $30,000 figure remains a projection — and the real-world economics still have to prove themselves.

Disclaimer
The $30,000 annual figure is based on Musk’s projected robotaxi economics, not guaranteed earnings. Actual revenue and profit would depend on operating costs, regulations, utilization and Tesla’s network terms
