Maharani Kamsundari Devi, the last Maharani of Darbhanga, passed away this week at the age of 93, bringing an end to a living chapter of Mithila’s royal legacy.
She never ruled a throne, yet earned respect through dignity, restraint, and lifelong service.
During the 1962 India–China war, when the nation was at a critical moment, the Darbhanga royal family made a historic sacrifice.
They donated 600 kilograms of gold to the Government of India, along with other assets that helped strengthen national morale and infrastructure.
Despite her royal background, she lived simply and quietly supported education, culture, and social causes through the Kalyani Foundation.
Her life stands as a reminder that patriotism often lives in silent sacrifice.
A crown may fade, but values endure.
