A Buddha statue dating to around the 11th or 12th century looked like a normal religious artifact until doctors in the Netherlands used a CT scanner and discovered something astonishing inside: the seated remains of a mummified monk, believed to be the Buddhist master Liuquan. Researchers later used endoscopy to examine the interior and reported additional materials inside the body cavity, suggesting the statue may have functioned as a sacred reliquary rather than a simple sculpture.
