A German defense technology company has unveiled a new autonomous underwater robot designed to patrol, map, and protect the world’s rapidly growing network of subsea cables — the infrastructure that carries more than 95% of global internet traffic and roughly $10 trillion in daily financial transfers.
Euroatlas says the system, named Greyshark, is built for long-duration reconnaissance and surveillance in both coastal waters and deep-sea environments.
Shaped like a shark, the vehicle is equipped with advanced sensors and autonomous navigation tools that allow it to operate independently over long distances, without the need for human control.
The technology comes as global concerns rise over the security of underwater cables, which have become critical targets in modern geopolitical and cyber conflicts.
