The seabed off the coast of Peniche is now moving back and forth with the ocean. Portugal has installed 24 massive hinged panels right on the seafloor. As deep Atlantic swells roll in, the panels rock with the current. Every tilt pumps hydraulic fluid through generators. Right now, 15,000 Portuguese homes are running entirely on the rhythm of the ocean. This is the world's first commercial-scale wave energy installation. It runs just as efficiently as onshore wind turbines, but it taps into an energy source that literally never stops moving
