France has embraced futuristic "Solar Trees" to blend renewable energy generation seamlessly into urban landscapes. These unique architectural structures feature giant photovoltaic "leaves" that capture sunlight and convert it into clean electricity while mimicking the organic form of a desert acacia tree. The trees stand up to 15 feet tall. Their leaves can rotate to follow the sun.

Strategically placed in public squares and community parks, these installations serve a dual purpose by providing much-needed shade and comfort to passersby. The integrated technology powers a variety of free urban amenities, allowing citizens to charge their smartphones, access public internet networks, utilize built-in water fountains, and benefit from night-time street lighting. The first solar tree was installed in the city of Nevers in 2022. Several dozen are now operating across the country.
