MIT researchers developed carbon-cement supercapacitors that combine structural concrete with energy storage. In 2025, improved electrolytes increased their energy-storage capacity about tenfold compared with the original design. A small prototype powered a fan and gaming console, while researchers envision future foundations, roads and buildings storing renewable electricity.
