The United States is preparing to deploy the FALCO counter-drone system to intercept large waves of drones in future conflicts.
The system is designed for aircraft such as the F-16 and F-15 and could be used to defend US carrier groups and land bases.
FALCO modifies the AGR-20 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System, a laser-guided upgrade of the Hydra 70 rocket that costs about $3,000.
The system targets low-cost drones such as Iran’s Shahed, which can carry a 100-pound warhead over several hundred miles.
US planners view FALCO as a lower-cost option for countering drone swarms that could overwhelm traditional missile defenses.
