Researchers have found that regularly drinking large amounts of soda can seriously affect the liver. Many sodas contain high levels of added sugar, especially fructose, which the liver processes directly. When consumed in excess, this can lead to fat buildup in the liver, a condition known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Some studies suggest frequent soda intake may contribute to liver damage even faster than alcohol in certain cases.
