The United States is preparing to deploy a new counter-drone system called FALCO to intercept large waves of drones in future conflicts.
The system is designed to be used on fighter aircraft such as the F-16 and F-15 and could also help defend US carrier groups and military bases from drone attacks.
FALCO works by modifying the AGR-20 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System, which is a laser-guided upgrade of the Hydra-70 rocket and costs around $3,000 per unit.
The system is specifically designed to destroy low-cost drones such as Iran’s Shahed drones, which can carry a 100-pound warhead and travel hundreds of miles.
US military planners see FALCO as a cheaper and more effective way to stop large drone swarms that could overwhelm traditional air defense missiles.
