The Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia has erupted for the first time in 12,000 years, stunning scientists and nearby communities. The eruption sent an enormous column of ash and smoke 9 miles (14 km) into the sky, making it visible from space. Satellite images captured the dramatic plume spreading across the region as winds carried volcanic material over long distances. Experts are now closely monitoring seismic activity to understand whether more eruptions could follow. This rare geological event highlights how even long-dormant volcanoes can awaken with tremendous force.
