China Tests First Space-Based Solar Power Station

China Tests First Space-Based Solar Power Station

China has launched an experimental satellite to test space-based solar power collection.
The satellite unfolds massive solar panels in orbit, where sunlight is constant and far stronger than on Earth. The energy is converted into microwaves and beamed down to ground receiving stations.
This method avoids weather and night-time losses that limit Earth-based solar farms. If scaled, it could provide continuous clean energy to cities around the world.
China’s prototype successfully transmitted small amounts of energy to a test site, marking the first real demonstration of the concept in orbit.
vThe project is part of China’s plan to dominate future renewable energy markets. It envisions full-scale orbital power stations by the 2040s.
If successful, space-based solar power could provide humanity with virtually limitless clean energy.
