Switzerland Tests High-Speed Vacuum Cargo Trains
Swiss scientists have launched a prototype cargo train running inside a vacuum tunnel at near-airplane speeds.
Known as “Cargo Sous Terrain,” the system places automated pods inside partially evacuated tunnels to reduce air resistance.
Electric linear motors propel pods at speeds of over 500 km/h, allowing cargo to move between Swiss cities in minutes.
Sensors embedded in tunnel walls constantly monitor pressure, speed, and pod stability, ensuring safety and efficiency.
The system is designed to cut road congestion and reduce emissions from trucks.
If successful, Switzerland could pioneer a new standard for ultra-fast, sustainable cargo transport.
